RULES
This one came about while my daughter and I were recreating Homestar Runner songs on the way home from school one day. It is based on the Whose Line Is It Anyway improv game called “Standing Sitting Bending.”

In that game, one person must be standing, one sitting, and one bending at all times. You start out that way, and as the scene progresses, any player may suddenly switch from – say – standing to sitting. And the whoever was sitting has to stand up all of a sudden. The point of course is to catch people off guard so that they have to switch in the middle of a sentence. And of course everyone is supposed to stay in character.

Well, in Singing, Humming, Drumming, you start off similarly – with one person singing the words to a made-up song, another person humming the background music, and the last person making the drum noises. Pretty quickly, someone has to switch to one of the other parts and whoever was doing that part has to switch to whatever the first person was doing. So, if someone switches from drumming to singing, the singer has to immediately start drumming. But just as quickly, he can switch to humming.

Is there a winner? No, it’s just a silly game, but it’s pretty funny to perform and surprisingly addictive. You’ll find yourself going on and on with one “song” in no time.

If you only have 2 players, you can still play. It just means that you need to switch to the part that the other player is doing when you DO switch.

One of my favorite tricks to play is to switch from, say, humming to drumming, but to start “singing” the drum noises right away. That would count as “singing” and you will fool the other performers into NOT drumming every time.

Okay, like I said, it’s simple. But that is exactly what I am driving at here at popepat.com
